Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly does it mean, a "Powered Speaker"?

The internal amplifier inside the subwoofers uses a design called MOSFET. This powerful design provides the strength to give the subwoofer the punch and precision that it needs to impress the entire room with authoritative bass response. MOSFET amplifiers are efficient, reliable, and operate at lower temperatures than standard transistor amplifiers, eliminating the need for huge costly heatsinks that also rob space from the sub’s internal cabinet volume.
There are three versions of amplifiers in the athena TECHNOLOGIES® line up. A 75 watt version for the P1, a 100 watt version for the P2, and a 150 watt version for the P3. athena TECHNOLOGIES® uses MOSFET amplifiers exclusively for all three models of Active Subwoofers.

The towered speakers like the S2-P2 for example will provide 100 watts internally to power the 8" subwoofer, and the passive S2 on top is powered by your receiver or amplifier. Thats why its necessary to connect a speaker cable from the receiver directly to the subwoofer. The big benefit is that the S2-P2 or any other athena TECHNOLOGIES® powered tower product will require NO EXTRA EFFORT from your receiver or amp. The receiver only powers the satellite speaker on top, the internal amp takes care of all the bass frequencies. The result: An extremely powerful combination for use with any grade of electronics, and for any application, whether it be music, or home theater.
