How well do the AUDITION Series 1 speakers work together, like in a surround system?
The entire line of athena TECHNOLOGIES® AUDITION series speakers are timbre matched. That means that you can choose any model you wish for front channels and rear channels. The AS-C1 is your choice as a center channel as it is sold individually but can be used for any channel. It has been specially designed so it can be oriented horizontally or vertically. The AS-R1 bi-pole rear surround is designed for the true audiophile surround system, creating a lifelike and enveloping rear and/or side surround image.
The only deciding factor on the speaker size is to match the speaker size with the power output of your receiver, and to the size of the room. A large room generally requires a larger speaker in order to have enough bass response to fill the air volume. A smaller room however can sound great with just a pair of bookshelf models. Keep the size of the demo room in mind and compare it with the size of the room you have at home when you audition speakers at the store.
