The exclusive and patented SCT™ system stands for System Creation Technology. This is the way that athena TECHNOLOGIES™ speakers and subwoofers physically and electronically connect together.
We refer to this as the "Create Your Sound™" concept.
The speakers are designed to be modular, allowing the products to be integrated with each other and into many different variations. This allows you to create your own speaker, and your own system! The S2 loudspeaker for example, can be used on its own as a bookshelf speaker, or as a rear channel surround speaker. It can also be integrated with the P2, 100 watt powered subwoofer, or the P3 150 watt sub. The choice is yours. The entire line features speakers and subwoofers that can perform many different functions in your music and home theater system.
The SCT™ system performs three main functions.
The speakers and subwoofers can be physically attached together, resulting in a powered floor standing tower speaker that takes up much less space then separate subs and speakers would.
The connection system performs the audio connection for you, so the speakers are incredibly simple to connect to your equipment. You will hear full range sound with amazing bass output the instant the two cabinets are integrated.
You can upgrade, and/or rearrange your speakers into any combination that best suits your needs, now and in the future. You can add more speakers to complete the system, or you can add subwoofers to your bookshelf speakers, all without fear of the product being mismatched.
All athena TECHNOLOGIES™ products are sonically matched so you can always rearrange the system configuration, or add to the system at any time in the future!
The benefits are obvious. No hassle music and movies! You choose your price, and athena TECHNOLOGIES™ has the answer! You can set up the speakers and get them to sound right, no questions, right out of the box. Thats the power of SCT™ !
But how do I Integrate a Speaker and a Powered Subwoofer?
The problem with ordinary subwoofer - satellite products is trying to get the best sound from them. When you get them home, there are many variables such as speaker and subwoofer position, where to set the frequency and level controls on the subwoofer in relation to the other speakers, and so on, All of these variables determine the quality of sound that you end up with.
The athena TECHNOLOGIES™ engineers’ have completely eliminated all of this confusion. When you get your system home, first physically integrate the speakers and subwoofers. This is done by sliding the two products together using the metal rails on the top of the sub, and bottom of the speaker. It takes mere seconds! Then set the “Mode Switch” on the sub’s front panel to the model number of the speakers you have purchased. Thats it !! The mode switch is an integral and very important part of the SCT™ system.
The end result will be a powered tower speaker that is physically & acoustically integrated. Just crank the volume control on the sub to add some bass, and you’re ready to go! The sound you will hear will be exactly like the sound you heard at the store’s fancy demo room. There’s no need for tweaking buttons, and endless adjustments, just great sound on the first try! Now how could set up be easier than that? The technology behind this control is unique to athena TECHNOLOGIES™ and is a critical part of what makes the SCT™ system so easy to work with. The entire A/V system can be assembled and wired in mere minutes with no guesswork, and perfect results!
The rear panel hook up on the subwoofer has different options as you can see in the picture, but the connection of an athena TECHNOLOGIES™ system couldn’t be easier!
The standard hook-up for a pair of athena TECHNOLOGIES™ speakers is the same as any quality speaker. The connectors on the back feature high quality 5-way binding posts, that accept either bare wire, pin type connectors, or banana-type connectors.
If you purchase the matching athena TECHNOLOGIES™ subwoofer, and you integrate it with an athena TECHNOLOGIES™ speaker, then this is the real advantage of our products.
The connection from amplifier to tower system is made at the subwoofer. There are specially labeled connectors on the rear of the sub that accept the speaker wire from your amplifier or receiver. They are the set on the bottom right side.
The connection to the integrated speaker is made via the metal rails that are used to attach the speaker with the subwoofer. This means that you connect the entire speaker system with one speaker cable in seconds, and need only select the “Mode Switch” to the correct setting to obtain a perfect blend of frequencies. It is nearly impossible to wire the speaker and subwoofer incorrectly when wiring this way.
This system is patented and exclusive to athena TECHNOLOGIES™. If you are a bit more experimentive, and you wish to bypass this simplified connection system, you can do that too! There are complete high level inputs and outputs for both left and right channels, as well as a RCA LFE low level input. This allows manual connection, if desired. The system is as simple or as complex as you wish it to be. So go on.........CREATE YOUR SOUND™ !!
Those sweet highs!!
The technology behind the Teteron tweeter is what allows the athena TECHNOLOGIES™ products to sound as great, play as loud and be as efficient as they are. The tweeter is arguably the most important element of a high performance speaker. Inefficient, or technologically inferior tweeters often force manufacturers to produce speakers that could be better if only the tweeter could keep up with the woofers capabilities.
The athena TECHNOLOGIES™ Teteron tweeter produces loud, clear and accurate highs that are dispersed from the unique faceplate in a very wide window. The wider the window of sound, the easier and more flexible your speaker placement is. There are huge acoustic benefits as well, with massive improvements to stereo imaging, and just plain better sound!
The Teteron dome tweeter is a durable synthetic material in a dome shape, specially contoured to reduce distortion, and to fit into the custom designed bezel which amplifies and controls the tweeters dispersion.
The Teteron material is impervious to moisture, so it is durable and won’t change over time. It also has huge sonic benefits over metal type tweeters which have inherent ringing problems, and much work needs to be done by the speaker designer to overcome the tweeters’ characteristics.
The best part of the athena TECHNOLOGIES™ brand is that the same tweeter is used throughout the entire series of products. This provides perfect matching of front, rear, and center speakers regardless of which model you decide to buy. This further enhances the SCT™ concept by allowing you to “Create Your Sound” and put any speaker you wish, into any channel of your system.
Give me some Deep Bass!!
The woofers used in the athena TECHNOLOGIES™ products are designed for high performance, high efficiency, durability, and of course great sound! These cones are comprised of a composite multi-laminated material designed to stay rigid during the most extreme excursion. Yet it is light enough to enable fast movement, which means accurate and tight bass response!
The surround material is made from butyl rubber which is a sturdy and strong rubber. It will help provide a durable and long lasting driver structure for your speaker system.
Built to Last!
All of the athena TECHNOLOGIES™ products are manufactured from MDF which stands for Medium Density Fiberboard. This material is quite dense, and the most consistent type of wood available. Use of MDF ensures not only great sound, and minimum cabinet resonance, but also 100% consistency for all athena TECHNOLOGIES™ speakers.
What is the front of the speaker made of?
The baffle material used in all of the athena TECHNOLOGIES™ products is made of a special injection molded resin material. It is specially shaped to improve the dispersion, and also to look awesome! The gentle rounded shape blends into any room, and if you remove the grilles from the drivers, the speaker takes on a whole new identity! The thick resin baffle is glued to the MDF cabinet, and is an integral part of the cabinet’s structure, improving rigidity and overall sound quality!
The internal amplifier inside the subwoofers uses a design called MOSFET. This powerful design provides the strength to give the subwoofer the punch and precision that it needs to impress the entire room with authoritative bass response. MOSFET amplifiers are efficient, reliable, and operate at lower temperatures than standard transistor amplifiers, eliminating the need for huge costly heatsinks that also rob space from the sub’s internal cabinet volume.
There are three versions of amplifiers in the athena TECHNOLOGIES™ line up. A 75 watt version for the P1, a 100 watt version for the P2, and a 150 watt version for the P3. athena TECHNOLOGIES™ uses MOSFET amplifiers exclusively for all three models of Active Subwoofers.
The towered speakers like the S2-P2 for example will provide 100 watts internally to power the 8” subwoofer, and the passive S2 on top is powered by your receiver or amplifier. Thats why its necessary to connect a speaker cable from the receiver directly to the subwoofer. The big benefit is that the S2-P2 or any other athena TECHNOLOGIES™ powered tower product will require NO EXTRA EFFORT from your receiver or amp. The receiver only powers the satellite speaker on top, the internal amp takes care of all the bass frequencies. The result: An extremely powerful combination for use with any grade of electronics, and for any application, whether it be music, or home theater.
Can I place these speakers where I want to?
The biggest problem with building a Home Theater system, is to ensure that the speakers will not only perform to your expectations, but also that they are designed to integrate anywhere in the room. Traditional speakers need to be kept many feet away from the TV due to magnetic interference problems. If not, there is a possibility the TV might be damaged. The entire line of athena products, is magnetically shielded, so close proximity to your TV shouldn’t cause any problems. Even the subwoofers, which is unique in the industry, are shielded. So when you put your speakers and subs together into a Powered Tower, you have much more flexibility than traditional speaker systems.
Another reason the athena TECHNOLOGIES™ products are easy to place in your room is due to the wide Dispersion pattern. The wider the dispersion, the wider the “listening window”. This allows a much wider soundfield, and better stereo image when playing music.
The benefit is, the whole room gets to hear clear, full range sound. allowing the speakers to integrate with your lifestyle, as opposed to the other way around!
