How can such a small speaker create good bass response?
There are three reasons why the WS series has bass response unlike anything in their category.
1) Injection Molded Woofers High Quality Injection Molded Polypropylene woofer cones with rubber surrounds provide long excursion and low distortion – both assist in creating exceptional bass response.
2) Passive Radiators (WS-60 / WS-100) Passive radiators are a precisely built, weighted driver that “tunes” the speaker enclosure much like a tuned port, but produce no wind noise. The WS-60 utilizes four, and the WS-100 has five passive radiators in each speaker to extract as much bass response as possible from their small enclosures.
3) SWF – Standing Wave Filter (WS-60 / WS-100) This remarkable filter system sets the WS series apart. SWF is responsible for the WS Series’ exceptional bass response and clear midrange. Long narrow speaker enclosures produce excessive standing waves that reduce bass and distort critical midrange frequencies. Precisely placed SWF’s reduce standing waves in 2 ways: First, they reduce the amount of reflected sound inside the enclosure by dampening or absorbing it. Secondly, they reflect the remaining sounds at path-lengths much higher in frequency eliminating bass cancellation and distortion of the midrange. The result is bass response that is cleaner, deeper, and more accurate than any of our competitors, regardless of price, and a truly flat frequency response for audiophile quality sound.

What is a "Teteron" tweeter?
The technology behind the Teteron tweeter is what allows the athena TECHNOLOGIES® products to sound as great, play as loud and be as efficient as they are. The tweeter is arguably the most important element of a high performance speaker. Inefficient, or technologically inferior tweeters often force manufacturers to produce speakers that could be better if only the tweeter could keep up with the woofers' capabilities. The athena TECHNOLOGIES® Teteron tweeter produces loud, clear and accurate highs that are dispersed from the unique faceplate in a very wide window. The wider the window of sound, the easier and more flexible your speaker placement is. There are huge acoustic benefits as well, with massive improvements to stereo imaging, and just plain better sound! The Teteron dome tweeter is a durable synthetic material in a dome shape, specially contoured to reduce distortion, and to fit into the custom designed bezel which amplifies and controls the tweeters dispersion. The Teteron material is impervious to moisture, so it is durable and won't change over time. It also has huge sonic benefits over metal type tweeters which have inherent ringing problems, and much work needs to be done by the speaker designer to overcome the tweeters' characteristics. The best part of the athena TECHNOLOGIES® WS series is that the same tweeter is used throughout the entire series of products. This provides perfect timbre matching of front, rear, and center speakers regardless of which model you decide to buy.

What are the WS speakers made of?
The cabinet of all WS series speakers is made of high strength aluminum. The aluminum enclosure maximizes internal cabinet volume for maximum bass and overall efficiency.
The baffle material in all of the WS Series products is made of MDF or Medium Density Fiberboard. MDF provides a solid and sonically inert baffle to mount the transducers. The MDF baffle also reduces transmission between the drivers and the aluminum shell, creating a very strong, resonance free enclosure. The results are evident as soon as you audition any WS series product!

What wall mounting options are there?
Mounting options are one of the key design elements in the WS Series. Our engineers realize that these speakers will be mated with wall mounted or table top flat panels, so mounting flexibility is essential.
The WS-15 features a rear leg under the binding post connectors that functions as a base when sitting on furniture. If you wish to wall mount the speaker, simply flip it upside down, and a single screw in the wall safely mounts the speaker in one of three positions. Remove the grill, and spin the logo around and your all ready to go!
The WS-60 comes with an incredibly flexible mounting bracket that works both horizontally and vertically. The WS-60 bracket design provides simple and flexible installation, with multiple attachment points. So if the bracket is mounted off center, or mounted to the nearest wall stud, the speaker can be quickly and securely re-positioned, allowing it to be placed properly without removing the bracket. It can also be used as a base. The WS-60 also comes with a round base already attached for use on furniture, shelving, or where higher stability is required. All of these accessories are packed in the box at no extra charge!
The WS-100 is a floor standing speaker, and they are equipped with polycarbonate bases, attached right out of the box for ease of setup, providing a secure stable speaker system.

How well do the WS Series speakers work together, like in a surround system?
The WS series of products from athena TECHNOLOGIES® are timbre matched allowing you to choose any model you wish for front and rear channels. The WS-100 model is primarily designed as a front channel speaker due to its size, while the WS-60 is your choice for left, right or as a center channel as it is sold individually. The WS-15 can be used in front channel or surround channel applications, and is easy to wall mount.
The only deciding factor on the speaker size is to match the speaker size with the power output of your receiver, and to the size of the room. A large room generally requires a larger speaker in order to have enough bass response to fill the air volume. A smaller room however can sound great with just a pair of bookshelf models.
