Do the AUDITION Architectural Series speakers work with other athena products?
Yes they do! In fact, one of the main design goals of this series is to match each other, and other athena products. There are many rooms that cannot accommodate traditional box speakers either for placement or cosmetic reasons. The Architectural Series allows you to design your athena system with the freedom of utilizing installed products in any of the channels. For example, you may have room for traditional AUDITION products up front, but in the rear, you may have a couch against the wall, or simply no place to put speakers. The AS-IC6 or AS-IC8 can be installed in the ceiling and provide an excellent surround sound experience. Or you can use them for all channels for the ultimate in hidden high fidelity audio systems.

Does each model have a specific purpose?
To a degree yes! The models AS-IC6 and AS-IC8 are designed primarily for ceiling installation as the round shape is less conspicuous to the eye. Square or rectangular speakers generally look odd in a ceiling installation. These are primarily used for either distributed audio, or as rear or effects speakers in a multi channel home theater system. The AS-IW6 is designed for in-wall use. Great for the front channels of a home theater or for stereo music applications in your main room, or in other rooms of the home. The AS-IC6st is a special design that allows a stereo signal, via two speaker cables, to be routed to the one speaker. In a distributed audio application where there are many speakers, the AS-IC6st will cut in half the number of speakers required. Each speaker has a dual voice coil woofer and dual ¾” tweeters angled apart to help create a better stereo image. Full range stereo is emitted from each individual speaker. In a long hallway, or large conference room, or in any room, this design can be a huge advantage to the installer, and the client as the budget will be significantly lowered.

The woofers used in the athena TECHNOLOGIES® products are designed for high performance, high efficiency, durability, and of course great sound! These cones are comprised of Injection Molded Polypropylene designed to stay rigid during the most extreme excursion, yet it is light enough to enable fast movement, which means accurate and tight bass response! The rubber surrounds utilized in all models are the best available, and provide quiet woofer movement and durability.

What is a "Teteron" tweeter?
The technology behind the Teteron tweeter is what allows the athena TECHNOLOGIES® products to sound as great, play as loud and be as efficient as they are. The tweeter is arguably the most important element of a high performance speaker. Inefficient, or technologically inferior tweeters often force manufacturers to produce speakers that could be better if only the tweeter could keep up with the woofers' capabilities. The athena TECHNOLOGIES™ Teteron tweeter produces loud, clear and accurate highs with extremely low distortion. The Teteron dome tweeter is a durable synthetic material in a dome shape, specially contoured to reduce distortion, and to fit into the custom designed bezel which amplifies and controls the tweeters dispersion. The Teteron material is impervious to moisture, so it is durable and won't change over time. It also has huge sonic benefits over metal type tweeters which have inherent ringing problems, and much work needs to be done by the speaker designer to overcome the tweeters' characteristics. The best part of the athena TECHNOLOGIES® Architectural series is that the same tweeter is used throughout the entire series of products. This provides perfect timbre matching of front, rear, and center speakers regardless of which model you decide to buy. The AS-IC6st uses a ¾” version of the Teteron dome, as opposed to the 1” the other models have. This speaker does match the others sonically, but due to its stereo configuration, will most likely be utilized for distributed audio in other rooms of the house.

How do you remove the grill from the in-ceiling/in-wall speaker?
All of the in-ceiling/in-wall speaker grills are pressure fit to the enclosure. To remove them, simply take the point of a small pocket knife and gently go around the outside of the grill to pry it loose. Using a pocket knife or similar flat edge may guard against possibly marking the outer edge of the frame. With the in-wall type of speaker it is best to start your grill removal in one of the corners of the grill. To replace, push only on the very edge of the grill, not the center portions as this may bend the grill.

Are the in-ceiling/in-wall speaker grills paintable?
All of the in-ceiling/in-wall speaker grills are paintable. Remove the grill from the speaker and the scrim from the underside of the grill before you start painting. This is the material found covering the inside of the grill. Use some light / fine weight sand paper to rough the grill surface, then apply some rubbing alcohol to the speaker grill to remove any dirt or oils from handling. Use several light coats of paint to avoid an uneven application. Spraying the paint gives a more even coat and does not clog the grill holes.
