The Point 5 MK II is an award winning music and home theater speaker solution for small to mid size rooms. It features four identical S.5 speakers, and a C.5 center channel all in one box. Simply add your choice of (optional) AS-P300 or AS-P400 Active Subwoofers and you are all set for the entertainment experience of a lifetime!
The Point 5 MK II system comes complete as a 5-piece music/home theater solution, but the separate models, S.5, C.5, are also sold separately. You can use them as add-ons for 6.1 and 7.1 systems, or in conjunction with AUDITION or SCT products for surround sound. The entire line of athena TECHNOLOGIES™ speakers are timbre matched, so you can utilize the separate S.5's for rear channel speakers with the SCT or AUDITION series.
Quality Connections
The connection procedure for the athena TECHNOLOGIES™ Point 5 MK II system was designed to be simple and secure. The speaker connectors are high quality gold plated 5-way binding posts, that accept either bare wire, pin type connectors, or banana-type connectors.
Connection of the 5 speakers is via standard speaker cable, and the optional AS-P series subwoofer in is usually a single RCA connector.
System Set Up - I've heard it's difficult?
Setting up a subwoofer-satellite speaker system can be tricky. Getting the right sound can be very difficult. Not with the Point 5 MK II however! With the exclusive and patented SCT system (System Creation Technology) the athena TECHNOLOGIES™ engineers have eliminated all of the confusion. By choosing one of the AS-P Series subwoofers to accompany your Point 5 MK II, the set up couldn't be any easier. Simply connect the speakers, and then connect the sub with a single RCA cable. Set the volume to around 5 (it's a starting point - you'll need to adjust it after) and set the subwoofers SCT control to the "S.5" position. The system is now perfectly blended and ready to play.
It's important that the subwoofer and speaker "hand off" the sound duties from one frequency area to the next properly. If a system sounds poor, usually it's this blending between subwoofer and speaker that is the culprit. Minor adjustments to the subwoofer level will be needed as acoustics vary from room to room, but essentially that's how easy it is. All of the guesswork of selecting the correct "crossover frequency" are removed by having the model number system on the SCT control.
Teteron Tweeters
The technology behind the Teteron tweeter is what allows the athena TECHNOLOGIES™ products to sound as great, play as loud and be as efficient as they are. The tweeter is arguably the most important element of a high performance speaker. Inefficient, or technologically inferior tweeters often force manufacturers to produce speakers that could be better if only the tweeter could keep up with the woofers' capabilities. The athena TECHNOLOGIES™ Teteron tweeter produces loud, clear and accurate highs that are dispersed from the unique faceplate in a very wide window. The wider the window of sound, the easier and more flexible your speaker placement is. There are huge acoustic benefits as well, with massive improvements to stereo imaging, and just plain better sound! The Teteron dome tweeter is a durable synthetic material in a dome shape, specially contoured to reduce distortion, and to fit into the custom designed bezel, which amplifies and controls the tweeters dispersion. The Teteron material is impervious to moisture, so it is durable and won't change over time. It also has huge sonic benefits over metal type tweeters, which have inherent ringing problems, and much work needs to be done by the speaker designer to overcome the tweeters' characteristics. The best part of the athena TECHNOLOGIES™ products is that the same tweeter is used throughout the entire series of products. This provides perfect timbre matching of front, rear, and center speakers regardless of which model you decide to buy.
Give me some Deep Bass!!
The woofers used in the athena TECHNOLOGIES™ products are designed for high performance, high efficiency, durability, and of course great sound! These cones are comprised of Injection Molded Polypropylene designed to stay rigid during the most extreme excursion. Yet it is light enough to enable fast movement, which means accurate and tight bass response! The rubber surrounds utilized in all models are the best available, and provide quiet woofer movement and durability.
Built to Last!
All of the athena TECHNOLOGIES™ products are manufactured from MDF which stands for Medium Density Fiberboard. This material is quite dense, and the most consistent type of wood available. Use of MDF ensures not only great sound, and minimum cabinet resonance, but also 100% consistency for all athena TECHNOLOGIES™ speakers.
What is the front of the speaker made of?
The baffle material used in the athena TECHNOLOGIES™ Point 5 MK II speakers (S.5/C.5) is a special injection molded resin material. It is specially shaped to improve the dispersion, but not coincidentally, they look awesome as well! The gentle rounded shape blends into any room, and if you remove the grilles from the drivers, the speaker takes on a whole new identity! The thick resin baffle is glued to the MDF cabinet, and is an integral part of the cabinet's structure, improving rigidity and overall sound quality!
Can I place these speakers where I want to?
The biggest problem with building a Home Theater system, is to ensure that the speakers will not only perform to your expectations, but also that they are designed to integrate anywhere in the room. Traditional speakers need to be kept many feet away from the TV due to magnetic interference problems. If not, there is a possibility the TV might be damaged. The Point 5 MK II system from athena TECHNOLOGIES™ are magnetically shielded, so close proximity to your TV shouldn't cause any problems.
The S.5 speakers also come with a revolutionary mounting bracket that mounts to your wall easily, securely, and allows for adjustments of the speakers position and angle after installation.
Another reason all athena TECHNOLOGIES™ products are easy to place in your room is due to the wide Dispersion pattern. The wider the dispersion, the wider the "listening window". This allows a much wider soundfield, and better stereo image when playing music.
The benefit of wide dispersion is that the whole room gets to hear clear, full range sound. This allows the speakers to integrate with your lifestyle, by being able be more flexible in your placement options.
